Pregnancy presents a high risk for oral health and can be associated with general complications (such as pre-eclampsia and premature birth). Pregnancy gingivitis, which affects between 40% and 100% of pregnant women, typically appears between the 3rd and 8th month of gestation. It is caused by hormonal changes, exacerbated by dental biofilm, and can lead to adverse pregnancy outcomes such as pre-eclampsia and premature births.<\/p>

Controlling bacterial plaque is essential, with both electric and manual toothbrushes showing varying levels of effectiveness. Electric toothbrushes, particularly those with oscillating-rotation technology, reduce plaque and gingivitis more than manual brushes. However, no specific comparative studies exist for pregnant women.<\/p>

The PRE-IOP study aims to evaluate the anti-inflammatory effectiveness of new connected sonic toothbrushes on gingivitis in pregnant women, comparing their effects to those of standard sonic brushes and manual toothbrushes.
